When I left for London in 2016, I didn't take on new projects for Smarter Learning, the publishing consultancy I started in 2011. I had a full-time job with the Web of Science Group and was using my spare time traveling Europe. Personally and professionally, it was a good three years. Now that I'm back in the US, Smarter Learning is again in the consulting business, in the areas of relationship management, business development, and content strategy. (And I'm still traveling for business and for fun, but without changing currencies as frequently.) Smarter Learning will focus largely on the scholarly and academic publishing world, and on the Open Access and Open Science sectors in particular. For the past three years I've worked in London in those very fields (see the About, Resume / CV, and Talks / Events pages of my website for details). Before that I was a newspaper reporter and editor; a commissioning editor for medical textbooks; and a consultant, employee, and cofounder of publishing startups. I've not lived in Chicago before, and I don't know much about the city yet. But I didn't know much about London either, and that worked out pretty well.
